There are various questions that a person has a doubt about and we are here to solve many of them. So let’s get started with the questions and their answers below them:

1. Can paint be applied during the rainy season?

This is the question that various people have a doubt about. Well to be very specific, there is no such boundation to paint or not to paint during a particular season. It depends upon the drying power and the time taken by the paint to be completely dried. Well to be very specific, yes it is risky to get you paint job done during the rainy season this is because for instance you paint the exterior of your home today and it rains very heavily then you may have to face several issues that may come up. Also, in case of interior painting, it may happen that you have painted a room and then it rains continuously rains for 4-5 days thus giving no time to the paint to be dried up completely and this may lead to blisters and bubbles on the wall in future because of increased moisture in the atmosphere thus giving no space to the paint to be dried up. Therefore, it is recommended to observe the weather and then only plan a paint job.

2. Can stains like those of ink and food stains be removed from the wall?

It basically depends on the paint that you have used for the painting purpose. If you have used paints from the Asian paints then chances are that they will be easily removed because most of the wall paints served by Asian paints brand are washable. Pencil marks can be easily removed. But in case of dark or heavy stains one can try removing the stain with a mild detergent diluted in water and with the help of a foam and a dry cloth one can remove the stain. But some things are to be kept in mind during this process that you do not rub the detergent with harsh hands over the wall and also remember that do not use this technique in case of newly painted wall because the wall paint may not be dry and you may end up making everything a mess. In case of newly painted wall you can hide the stains or the flaws by painting that portion of the wall again.

3. How long should one wait before painting a newly constructed house?

Once you are done with the construction work of your house you need to leave it for around 45-50 days and this time of leaving the constructed home for painting is known as the curing period. It is basically the time for which cement is left bare or in other words you can say that the wall is left bare without any paint. This is done so that the paint does not reacts with the chemicals present in the cement. So basically if you have to paint a newly constructed home of yours you first have to give your wall a curing period of 45-50 days, during this time the cement applied will be dried fully and then your wall or your home is ready for a paint job.

4. What is the expiry date of paints?

One may be confused regarding till when the paints can be used. Because in many cases it happens that after a paint job is complete and if you are left with some paint that you think can be reused it is the normal tendency of a person that he/she will save it for later use. But now let’s see that what the expiry date of paints is. So basically, if you have an unused can of paint whose lid is not open then it can be stored for up to 3-3.5 years and thus you can think that it will be useful for you next paint job but in case you have already opened the lid of the can of the paint then we recommend you to use it before 24 hours. This is because paint when comes into contact with open air can form bubbles inside it and thus open can paints are not recommended for long time use.

5. What are emulsions?

Emulsion is a plastic paint which is acrylic in nature. These emulsions are water based. And they offer amazing durability. (More than the acrylic paint). It is water resistant and can be cleaned off easily with a drop cloth. It provides a smooth finish to the walls and also it provides a matt look to the walls and hence gives you an efficient paint job. These are available for Interior Wall surfaces as well as Exterior Wall surfaces.

6. Are emulsion paints costlier than the distempers?

In Asian paints you get a variety of choice in the emulsion paints itself and emulsions are recommended over the distempers. Royale, which is a premium brand, is more costly than distempers. Tractor Emulsions are comparable, price wise to any Distemper.

7. What is the role of a primer paint?

Primer, as the name suggests is the preliminary layer of paint that is applied over the walls. There are several reasons to use primer paint before one starts off with the paint job. The main reason to apply the primer paint before the paint is to ensure that the paint is adhesive to the wall efficiently and also to ensure that the paint job is very smooth and hassle free. It also imparts durability to the paint and increases the life of the paint. One must not compromise with the quality of the primer as it takes into account the years for which the paint may last over the walls without any flaws. Also the primer imparts extra safety to the surface being painted. One must apply the primer in a correct manner as it will ensure the enhancement of the life of the paint, and will also improve its appearance.

8. Can one use kerosene for thinning of the paint?

There are people who would recommend you to use kerosene for thinning of the paint but use of kerosene in the thinning process of paint leads to delay in the drying of the paint and also leads to reduced gloss in the paint and therefore we do not recommend the use of kerosene for thinning of the paint. You can use different kinds of thinners that are available in the market for this specific purpose. This will not lead to any delay in the drying process and will also restore the gloss of the paints.

9. What care should be taken while painting?

Once you have to start with the paint job or if you have already started you must note down some things that are really important to be taken care of. First of all we recommend you to first try the colour sample over the wall and also try a shade number above and below the one you have selected and then decide the paint that you want to choose. Do not buy a full big pack of paint just by seeing the tester. Secondly, once you are sure about the paint shade number you have to use for the paint job for your house, do buy a large pack to save on cost and to be economical. Before applying the paint make sure there are no cracks or external particles that may disturb the paint job. While applying the paint do not forget to stir the paint nicely so that there are no bubbles or anything of that sort be formed over the surface of the walls. Also, if you are using thinners, primers and undercoats, ensure that they are of good quality. And last but not the least it is recommended that you should always clean spilt/splashed paint with a recommended thinner while it is still wet.

10. What happens if a thick layer of putty is applied over the walls?

In case of a thick layer of putty applied over the walls there are chances that it will take a lot of time to be dried completely and also there are high chances that the wall will have some cracks all around the wall because of the thick layer of putty applied and this is basically because the putty cannot be dried up properly. So after a certain period of time cracks can be formed over the surface of the wall.

11. Can paint be applied directly over the putty?

There is no hard and fast rule that primer has to be applied before the application of the paint. It is done just because the paint will be evenly applied and there will no flaws in the looks. Also, we suggest that application of primer over the putty is good before applied the paint because that will ensure the smoothness and the evenness of the paint job and will also prevent the wall from having an uneven finish. Therefore it is recommended to apply a coat of primer over putty and then the final coat.

12. How does lime wash and paint vary from each other?

There are various differences in lime water and paint. Paint offers a huge choice over the colours that you want to select from. But in case of lime wash you are left with no choices. Secondly, in case of lime wash you do not get that shine and that rich look that you get in paint. Also there are no types and variations in the lime water but there are various kinds of paints offered by different brands. Also, a negative point about lime wash is that Lime wash is a very low substitute for paint. It has a poor finish, is neither washable nor durable. Also, lime wash can easily be rubbed off or in other words removed from hands, clothes and walls, which is definitely not in the case of paints.

13. What are cement paints?

Cement paint is an economical exterior wall finish and enhances the decor of buildings. It is resistant to fungus and algae and protects buildings from varying weather conditions. Cement paints are covered under Powder Paints which are used for exterior cemented walls, all types of masonry surfaces like Bungalows, Multi-storeyed buildings, Bridges, Dams, Houses, Buildings of General Public, etc. and can also be used for Interior as well as exterior masonry cemented surfaces. Cement paint gives very good protection from severe climatic conditions like rain, heat, water, humidity, salt atmosphere near sea-shores, to all types of cemented walls, surfaces. The benefits of using cement paints are that they prove to be a great waterproofing solution and are easy to apply. Additionally, they can be stored for longer periods of time because they are available in the form of powder and need to be dissolved with water before application. Being highly economical, cement wall paints can be applied once in 2 or 3 years to keep them looking great.

14. Are all paints washable?

With reference to Asian paints, we would like to tell that the following paints from Asian paints like Royale, Apcolite Emulsion, Tractor Distemper, Apcolite Lustre, Apcolite Matt and all the enamel paints from Asian Paints are completely washable. These paints do provide a very efficient and smooth finish to the walls and these paints can be cleaned very easily with the help of a drop cloth or maybe with some diluted soapy solution and a cloth.

15. Do paints need to be mixed together if a good colour is expected?

It is not advisable to mix the paints together because this may lead to not getting the same shade from wall to wall, and the finish will be patchy and irregular.  So, it is always better to use available shades. They are standard across all packs and never vary. Asian Paints offers you a wide range of shades to choose from.

16. How can walls be kept clean and tidy?

In order to keep your walls look clean, new and freshly painted, you should keep on cleaning the wall from time to time by mild detergent diluted in water and with the help of a foam and a dry cloth one can remove the stain. But some things are to be kept in mind during this process that you do not rub the detergent with harsh hands over the wall and also remember that do not use this technique in case of newly painted wall because the wall paint may not be dry and you may end up making everything a mess. Also in order to keep it really clean and tidy you can give your home a makeover ever 2-3 years. A single coat of fresh paint will help to maintain the looks of your house.

17. What time does paint takes to be dried completely?

The time required by the paint to be completely dry depends on paint to paint. That means it completely varies from one type of paint to another. For instance the drying time needed by an emulsion paint is something about4-6 hours. This is the time required by an emulsion paint to be completely dried. Though it is sometimes advisable that it should be left for 8 hours before doing any else thing over the walls. Similarly, distemper takes 6 to 8 hours, while Enamel, Primer, Lustre and Matt Finish requires 8 to 10 hours. And last but not the least, Touchwood takes 6 to 8 hours.

18. How can one control his or her house’s walls from insects?

Insects are generally not attracted by paint. Insects come in home maybe because of the lack of cleanliness and insects are mostly found in kitchen. This is because kitchen has the presence of food that attracts the insects. Well, to be clean and to get rids of the walls one must always keep the home clean and tidy and should also practice regular cleaning of the walls of the kitchen and rest of the house with the help of a mild detergent as mentioned above. And over and above this one must also keep insects away with the help of the pest control system in house.

19. How long a painting project takes?

This completely depends upon the number of rooms that have to be painted and also upon the number of people you have employed for the paint job. This is because the time taken to paint 1 room by 3 painters and 3 rooms by 1 painter will obviously be different. Well, according to the general tendency of people we can say that an interior paint job may take around 8-10 days and on the other hand, an exterior paint job may take about 10-12 days.

20. How can paint be removed from granite?

You can try to remove the paint with a paper or a towel if the paint is still fresh enough to be removed. Scrape paint off the kitchen carefully with a razor blade if it has dried. For this purpose you can also use a putty paper or a sandpaper. Wipe up paint flakes with a damp paper towel. Wet the area, and then create a poultice of equal parts baking soda and water; use more baking soda if needed to create a thick paste. Apply a 1/4- to 1/2-inch-thick poultice. In place of this poultice one can also try NC thinner available in the market or stain remover from any branded company for removing the same. But chances of granite losing gloss cannot be eliminated. Spread the poultice or the thinner evenly over the stained area with a plastic scraper tool. Cover the poultice with plastic wrap and tape down the edges. Allow the poultice to stand for 24 to 48 hours, depending on the severity of the stain. Remove the plastic wrap and rinse the area thoroughly. Rub the area with the help of a soft cloth. Repeat the process if the stain has not gone completely.
