Oil Bound Distemper
It is a water based paint mixture which is easy to apply and offers range of shades. The paint is suitable for various interior surfaces and maintains excellent porosity in new and old buildings. It is widely used to decorate walls and ceiling surfaces.

Pre-Application Procedure for Oil Bound Distemper
1. Instruction for New Wall Surface
-
The area of application should be cleaned thoroughly. Remove all dirt, dust and uneven elements from the surface by washing and scraping.

All the unevenness in the surface should be corrected by filling the putty mixed with white lead.

The surface should be sanded down with fine grade sand paper for smoothness.
-
If the surface is dry, priming coat should be applied with distemper primer which is of same brand as oil bound distemper is made of.

If the surface is wet, Cement primer should be applied on wet surface instead of distemper primer.
2. Instruction for Old Wall Surface
-
Old surface should be thoroughly cleaned by removing dirt, dust, all loose materials, scales etc. and by rubbing with sand paper.

All patches should be repaired with putty, made of Paris of Plaster and white lead.

The surface should be made smooth by sanding and cleaning thoroughly with sand paper.

For old surface wall no primer coat is necessary.
Preparation of Oil Bound Distemper

The container should be cleaned with warm and soap water before mixing the solution.
-
Add about 0.5 liters per Kg of water to form thick paste of distemper slowly, so that oil bound distemper is available in thick paste form.

Add color pigment as to the required shade of color.
Application of Oil Bound Distemper

After the primer coat is dry at least for a day, the surface should be sanded lightly to make it smooth for receiving distemper. Care should be taken not to rub priming coat. All loose particles should be dusted off after rubbing.

Apply one coat of distemper properly which is diluted with thinner (water), with brushes in horizontal strokes immediately followed by vertical strokes that together constitute one coat. Keep at least 24 hours time interval between two successive coats to let the preceding coat dries properly.

The second coat should be applied in the same way as the first. Two or more coats of distemper as necessary should be applied on primer coat to obtain even shade.
Disadvantages of Oil Bound Distemper

Oil-bound distemper are not washable.
-
It steadily emerges out from the wall for moisture.

It doesn’t contain any anti-fungal or anti-algae property.

It doesn’t give a rich finish to wall.
Notes with regards to Oil Bound Distemper
-
Oil bound distemper must not be applied within first 6 months of the plastering of wall.

Maintain and interval of 24hrs between each coat. It must be not applied in extreme cold conditions.
-
Distemper must be applied to ceiling before applying it to walls.
